The laboratory is certified by the College of American Pathologists, the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services, and the State of Tennessee. The laboratory is a professionally directed team of employees consisting of clerk/phlebotomists, medical laboratory technicians, medical technologists, senior medical technologists, a histotechnologist, clerical staff, and a team of pathologists who staff the laboratory 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All professional employees are licensed by the State of Tennessee and appropriate national agencies. All employees meet job competency requirements designations for their job position at the time of employment as a part of orientation and follow an annual program of competency maintenance.

The clinical laboratory provides routine and STAT testing in the areas of hematology, chemistry, transfusion services, and microbiology. The clinical laboratory is responsible for recording appropriate results on the patients' charts in a manner that is easily interpreted by the physicians.

The anatomical laboratory provides services in-house for surgical tissue specimens and cytology specimens.
